A few months ago our multifunctional printer stopped working, a week after the warranty period ran out. Could not believe our luck. After getting over it we called the company who are a highly recognised worldwide brand to find out about our repair options.
The best they could do was offer us a replacement (same model) at a higher price than what a newer model would cost us to buy. I kid you not! Their strategy was to make us buy the newer model as to do other wise would be financially ludicrous. When we asked them what we should do with the old printer (which was virtually still brand new) they said we should throw it in the garbage. They would not pick it up to repair it or use it for spare parts. This could have been a replacement for other customers with the same model. This episode really opened our eyes to the negative externalities associated with the end of a product's life cycle.
Since the GFC, global economic uncertainty has prevailed. In a globalised world, economies are interlinked and financial shocks are felt worldwide similar to the ripples created when a stone is thrown into a calm pond. For some, frugality is a way of life, for others frugality becomes a way of life to simply survive in turbulent times. FrugalVibe aims to create an environment where economical ideas can be exchanged.

Enjoying Cheaper Mobile Bills
After getting fed up with my previous mobile service provider due to poor reception and calls constantly dropping out, it was my mission to change mobile providers. Worried that I may end up with an equally incompetent mobile provider I trialled a new mobile service provider for a few months.
Happy to say I found a winner. The things that impressed me regarding this provider is the low mobile call charges. Calls from my mobile to any mobile/landline Australia wide are $0.12 a minute (no connection charge/flagfall). Furthermore, SMS sent are $0.12 each (Domestic).
Besides the low charges for mobile use, the reception is great and I have not experienced line drop outs. There is no contract and no minimum spend as I chose the prepaid option with minimum recharge as low as $15 thats valid for 90 days.
